ISESCO Criticizes Statement of Amnesty International’s Secretary General

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) criticized the statement of Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Irene Khan, in which she said the Arab League has undermined international law by declaring that the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir has immunity from the ICC’s arrest warrant.

In a communiqué issued today, ISESCO said that instead of criticizing the Arab League, together with Egypt and Eretria which are not members of the ICC and are accordingly not bound by its decisions, Khan would have rather called for the arrest and trial of the Israeli leaders responsible for the war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Israeli army in Gaza, and the ongoing racist aggression against the Palestinian people.

International law condemns Israel ’s policies and actions against the Palestinian people, but these are never enforced when it comes to Israel which enjoys an illegal immunity granted by Western countries, the communiqué says.

On this occasion, ISESCO urged Amnesty International to maintain objectivity and even-handedness in its positions so as not to be playing into the hands of the enemies of Sudan and the Islamic world.
