Jordanian Minister of Industry and Trade Amer Hadidi Tuesday said Jordan's is keen to make Tunisia a gateway for Jordan's national exports to Africa, and a center for the promoting Tunisian products in the region.
During the opening of Jordanian-Tunisian partnership days in Amman , Hadidi highlighted the importance of exerting more efforts to activate the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) through boosting Arab trade in the field of food products to achieve food security.

During the event, organized by Amman Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Tunisian Export Advancement Center and Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation, Hadidi said that the historical ties between the two countries make it incumbent upon us to find mechanisms to boost the economic and investment relations between the two sides.

Director General of the Tunisian Export Advancement Center Naji Youssef expressed his country's keenness to enhance economic and trade cooperation with the Kingdom.

Youssef stressed the need to build strong partnerships that reflect the distinguished relations between the leaderships of the two countries.

The volume of trade exchange between the two countries rose by 62 percent last year to $46 million compared to $29 million in 2007.

Jordan exports to Tunisia mainly consist of pharmaceuticals, plastic products, cement and aluminum .

The Kingdom imports from Tunisia non-organic chemical products, vegetable oils, rubber and electrical equipment.(Petra)
