Energy Institute wins education and training award
Global Arab Network - - Maha Karim

The Energy Institute (EI) has won this year’s Special Association Award for advancing education in the oil and gas industry, receiving well over 1000 votes from individuals working in energy. Presented at the annual education and training Getenergy event in London , this award recognises the education work of the EI, most notably the development of its careers and education website, www.energyzone.net and supporting services to its Student and Graduate members to get their careers off to a flying start.

Sarah Beacock FEI, Professional Affairs Director, Energy Institute, says, ‘It’s fantastic that the work of the EI has been recognised in this way. We know energy is an exciting industry to work in but the breadth and diversity of energy careers available is not well known amongst young people. The EI is dedicated to bringing together all sectors of the industry to promote working in energy, through websites like Energyzone, while supporting those already in the industry with relevant education and training opportunities, as well as increasing the profile and highlighting the important role energy professionals play in today’s society.’

Energyzone offers the most comprehensive online guide to education, training and careers in the energy industry. The site provides information about energy in general as well as information on careers for those interested in joining the industry. Featuring real-life case studies, key employers and a list of accredited university courses, www.energyzone.net also highlights how the EI can help those working in energy further their career and support their professional development.

The EI is the leading professional membership body for the international energy industry, providing professional status and CPD opportunities to everyone involved in any aspect of energy. It does this through its grades of professional membership, the accreditation of professional training and academic programmes worldwide and the provision of an educational and careers service that seeks to promote the industry to its future employees and develop an enthusiasm in the subject of energy amongst young people. The EI’s oil and gas training programme continues to deliver training to a vast range of individuals and companies from over 50 countries.

In addition to its ongoing work, the EI strives to deliver new and innovative activities to support its members. In 2008, the EI held a series of workshops for teachers to discuss energy issues in the curriculum. Following this, new educational materials for teachers and energy careers information for 14-18 year olds were developed.
