Arab-South American Summit Strengthening the relations

Second Summit of Arab-South American countries concluded activities in Doha Tuesday. The Summit issued a final statement dubbed "Doha Declaration."
The Arab-South American leaders reiterated the need for realizing a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, based on the UN relevant resolutions, Madrid Conference, the Arab peace initiative and the land-for-peace formula.

The statement called on Israel to withdraw from the occupied Arab lands including the Syrian Golan into the line of June 4th, 1967, establish a Palestinian independent state and remove all Israeli settlements including the settlements in Jerusalem.

It expressed deep concern over the US unilateral sanctions against Syria, saying that the so-called Syria Accountability Act is a flagrant violation of international laws and the UN convention, calling for a constructive dialogue among nations.

The Arab-South American leaders expressed satisfaction of the development in relations between the two regions and the intensified dialogue achieved since the First Summit which formed a consolidated framework for cooperation in the main fields including culture, economy, environment, social affairs, water resources and combating desertification.

The statement expressed conviction of the necessity of south-south cooperation as an active mechanism to build capabilities and exchange expertise in the relevant fields including development, innovation and combating poverty.

It underlined commitment to respect the principles of countries' sovereignty, territorial integrity and the peace settlement of international conflicts.

On Palestine, the leaders expressed respect for the Palestinian legitimacy, hailing efforts exerted by the Palestinian factions and Arab countries to realize national reconciliation and asserting the need to make the Palestinian dialogue a success.

The statement condemned the Israeli military operations in Gaza Strip which claimed the lives of thousands of Palestinian martyrs and destroyed infrastructure, calling for lifting the siege and opening all crossing points into Gaza.

On Iraq, the Arab and South American leaders underlined the need for respecting Iraq unity and territorial integrity and non-intervention in its internal affairs, condemning all acts of terrorism that target the Iraqi people.

They welcomed the initiative of the Arab League and African Union to solve Darfur crisis, expressing support to Darfur's Committee led by Qatar's Prim Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jabr Al Thani.
