UN Secretary General calls for establishment of Palestinian state

United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on the new Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cooperate with parties concerned to establish an independent and viable Palestinian state according (Petra).

"The secretary general looks forward to working with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the full range of peace and security issues in the region," UN spokeswoman Michele Montas released in a statement on Wednesday.

"This includes the resumption of the Middle East peace process, with the aim of achieving an independent and viable Palestinian State living side-by-side in peace with a secure Israel, and a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace as envisaged in Security Council resolutions," the statement added.

On the other hand, Head of the Palestinian negotiation delegation Ahmed Qurai''a on Friday said the disrespect, negligence and denial of Israel’s new government to the Annapolis plan and its refusal to the settlement and the two-state solution will take us back to the zero point and end hopes for a political solution.

In statements he made on Friday to the palestinian TV, Qurai''a said the peace process is no more active, a matter that represents a serious turning point in the palestinian cause and the palestinian national rights.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman Israel, under the new government of Benjamin Netanyahu has not abided to understandings on the creation of a Palestinian state reached at a US-sponsored conference at Annapolis.
