OIC Conference..an opportunity to strengthen joint work by Islamic humanitarian organisations

The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference expressed thanks and appreciation of Libya for the support offered to the pan-Islamic body.
In a statement read on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary at the opening session he said " we express our thanks and appreciation to the Leader of the Revolution and the Libyan people for the continuous support which the OIC receives in different ways. He also thanked the Libyan people for hosting this conference in Libya." according to (JANA).

He called on participating organisations to strive to put in place a responsible humanitarian work foundation that can face up to the challenges of today's world.

He said the meeting was an opportunity to strengthen joint work by Islamic humanitarian organisations to carry out their job in times of conflicts, disasters and crises all over the world, pointing to the suffering in Gaza, Somalia and Darfur.

The speakers urged organisations to close ranks and work harder to achieve the goals for which they came into being.

The Secretary of the General People's Committee of Social Affairs underlined the importance of the theme of the conference which carries noble implication cherished by the Gt Jamahiriya, and reflects the humanitarian aspect of the participating organisations.

The Secretary of the World Islamic said many of the Islamic cultural and promulgation organisations had sought to team up with relief agencies for better coordinated humanitarian work.

He underscored the need for those engaged in the relief work to be enlightened about Islam and the humanitarian nature of this effort.
