The BTC is Syria's first public training institute for the financial sector. Its establishment and the development and delivery of its training programmes have been supported   by the European Union (EU)-funded projects “Banking Sector Support Programme II" and "Support to the Bank Training Centre”.
The Banking Sector has shown overwhelming interest in the training programmes offered by the Bank Training Centre, since it began operating in 2007. Over 2000 bank staff members have benefited from training in numerous areas such as banking operations, credit management, accounting standards, treasury, risk management including Basel II, as well as management training courses.

The wide ranging reforms in the financial sector covering banking, insurance, financial markets, trade, and taxation, have been a major catalyst in strengthening the fundamentals of the Syrian Economy. Such reforms have resulted in the rapid growth of the financial sector, particularly in the emergence of private financial institutions. Hence, there is an increasing demand for highly specialised and better-qualified management, capable of understanding the rules and complexities that govern the financial sector.

The development and delivery of training & educational programmes by BTC is an important step in ensuring the availability of adequately trained human resources. BTC will work with new and existing professionals, developing relevant skills and personality attributes rising above those of the past.

In addition to supporting the Bank Training Centre, the Banking Sector Support Programme II (BSSPII) is an EU-funded project which supports the Syrian Authorities in their decisive engagement in the further development of a healthy and sound banking & financial sector.
