The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation today announced several renowned global publishing brands showed significant participation interest in the upcoming Dubai International Children’s Book Fair that is being spotlighted at the London Book Fair 2009 (LBF).
Representatives from Penguin Arabia, National Literacy Trust of the UK and Book Trust of the UK held discussions on possibilities of collaboration with Jamal Al Shehhi, CEO of Dubai International Children’s Books Fair, on the opening day of the London Book Fair that runs until 22 April at Earl’s Court.

One of the most prestigious events in the world for the international book industry, the three-day festival has brought together publishers, agents and service providers from over 67 countries to meet and forge new business partnerships. In the 2008 edition, over 25,500 publishers, booksellers, librarians, authors, agents, press and service providers from 117 countries were present at the fair that showcased the Arab Market Focus Programme.

Jamal Al Shehhi said: “The extent of enthusiasm and interest shown by renowned publishers has been encouraging and we anticipate holding discussions with more industry organisations over the next few days. Based on the interest generated so far at the London event and other similar forums, we are confident more global publishing majors will participate in the Dubai International Children’s Book Fair to be held in February 2010.”

Jonathan Douglas of the National Literary Trust, said: “We are impressed by the spectrum of offerings the Dubai International Children’s Book Fair is set to provide and we are keen to explore possibilities of collaboration. Our discussions with Al-Shehhi were productive and we believe we can make an effective contribution to the event in terms of knowledge dissemination and raising awareness on children’s literature.”

On the sidelines of the 38th edition of the London Book Fair, the Foundation aims to launch a series of initiatives with regards to children’s literature as part of its strategic endeavour to promote the Dubai International Children’s Book Fair across prestigious international forums.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum seeks to develop the knowledge capabilities of the Arab world through a range of innovative programmes across the three main sectors of knowledge and education, culture, and entrepreneurship and employment.
