"The other 8 May 1945," a documentary film screened Tuesday in Algiers, recounts the atrocities committed by the French colonial army against the Algerian people demonstrating on that day to demand their independence, in the moment when the allies were celebrating their victory against Nazi Germany.
Directed by Yasmina Adi, an Algerian artist born in France, this documentary unveils, through testimonies, illustrated by photos and videos, shown for the first time, about the mechanisms and the consequences of this colonial suppression perpetrated in several cities of Algeria, notably in Setif, Guelma and Kherrata in May 1945.
