Morocco and France signed, in Rabat, an administrative arrangement on social security, relating to the implementation of the new Moroccan-French Convention on Social Security concluded in October 2007 in Marrakech .
The agreement was signed by Minister of employment and vocational training, Jamal Rhmani, and French Labour, Social Relations, Family, Solidarity and Urban Affairs Minister, Brice Hortefeux.

The agreement provides health care services to Moroccan, French and EU nationals and to retirees. It also provides for estimating pensions on the basis of the insurances incurred in other countries.

The agreement text also provides for equal treatment and reciprocity, maintaining the rights acquired or being acquired (aggregation of insurance periods and apportionment of benefits), and transferring of services to the country of residence.

The French minister, who kicked off a working visit to Morocco on Monday, said the new agreement provides an extended protection for other categories such as self-employed, civil servants, people seeking employment, students and trainees.

It also expands health care that was previously restricted to employees and their families living in Morocco, to all persons covered by the Convention and their dependents, Hortefeux underlined.

Rahmani said the administrative arrangement will give impulse to bilateral cooperation in the area of Social Security.

The French minister also held talks with Prime minister Abbas El Fassi and Deputy Minister in charge of the Moroccan community abroad Mohamed Ameur. (map)
