The Tunisian Association of digital technology and human resources (ATTR) is hosting a conference in Tunis on 07-05-2009 on “Handicap, school integration and pedagogical supports in the digital age.”

The event is placed under the patronage of The First Lady, Mrs Leila Ben Ali and the president of the “Basma” Association for the promotion of employment of disabled persons.

Several experts from Tunisia, France, Switzerland, Germany and Canada are taking part in the forum which comprises several presentations and workshops on the role of digital technology in the integration of disabled school children, as well as the showcasing of recent success stories in this field.

In his opening address to the forum, the Minister of education and vocational training, Mr Hatem Ben Salem, said that Tunisia has some 300 ‘inclusive’ schools which welcome 1378 school children with specific needs. 1063 classrooms have been redesigned to this effect for the schooling of pupils in the primary education system, he noted.

The Minister also said that Tunisia’s vocational training system allowed for a ratio of 3% of training opportunities for school children with disabilities.

The role of civil society, as well as that of the “Basma” Association was also stressed by Mr Ben Salem, in their support of the State’s efforts to promote the integration of disabled school children through the use of digital technology.
