Arab League reviews implementation of Kuwait summit resolutions

The Arab League higher committee on coordination of joint action reviewed on Wednesday the steps taken by the Arab countries, the league's specialized agencies and other concerned organizations to implement the results of the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit , held in Kuwait on January 19-20.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the league under chairmanship of the league's Secretary-General Amr Moussa. The committee, made up of chiefs of the specialized Arab agencies, requested the concerned parties to develop periodical reports detailing on the progress made in the Arab joint action in the various domains pursuant to the resolutions of Kuwait summit, according to a press release issued after the meeting.

It urged strict commitment to the measures, programs and time schedules agreed upon by the Arab leaders.

The conferees probed the priority order of the projects aiming to achieve pan-Arab comprehensive sustainable socio-economic development, according to the press release.

On top of such projects are the ones aiming to; reform of the financial and banking systems; overcome the global financial crisis; bring into full play the private sector; promote the agricultural development; ensure food security; make available the housing units; develop renewable energy; and protect environment.

The priority order includes also the collective measures aiming to check climate change, promote industrial development, increase trade exchanges and mutual investments, promote transport and communication systems, enhance tourism, modernize the information technology and scientific research, improve the healthcare service education, and control the unemployment problems.

The committee reviewed the report develop by the Arab League mission to Gaza Strip after the visit paid by the mission to the region in February.

It agreed to form a panel to follow up the implementation of Gaza reconstruction program in association with the Arab organizations. (KUNA)
