France: nuclear negotiations with Saudi Arabia progressing

French Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment Christine Lagarde said negotiations with Saudi Arabia on use of nuclear energy for civilian purposes were progressing. Negotiations over a nuclear agreement are progressing and Paris hopes that King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and French President Nicolas Sarkozy could sign the agreement in near future, Lagarde told a news conference.

She said her visit to Saudi Arabia helped boost already-existing strong friendship relations.
Lagarde said her talks with the Saudi officials dealt with oil, peaceful nuclear programs and railway issues, in addition to outcome of the G-20 summit.

She said a joint committee would be meeting soon to finalize a tax treaty.
Asked about impacts of global economic crisis on France, Lagarde said France was welcoming foreign investments but would not ask for financial aid to overcome the meltdown. (KUNA)
