A team of educational experts have recently met at ISESCO to develop a draft strategy for early childhood and care. They have decided to work out an implementation plan to identify key concepts and standard scientific and educational terminology, and lay down the basic groundwork on which to implement the strategy , in line with the Islamic fundamental values and principles, as well as cultural and civilizational specificities, and modern universal trends.

The experts have recommended a scientific, methodological diagnosis of the status of early childhood education in the Member States, with the view to identify areas of strength and weakness and the challenges ahead.

Also, they have called for effectively bringing national strategies, studies and statistical analyses to bear on this process. To this end, a detailed follow-up questionnaire about early childhood will be sent out by ISESCO to the Member States.

The experts have also recommended laying down overall strategic, procedural guidelines to meet future needs, and setting out standard quality norms and scientific criteria, building on the latest studies, successful experiences and international models.

They have also underlined the need for defining procedural mechanisms, means and plans towards achieving the goals set for the strategy, as well as ensuring implementation, follow-up, evaluation, and review of proposed alternatives and amendments. To this end, special focus has been placed on the need to cooperate and coordinate with international, regional and national stakeholders concerned with early childhood issues.

At the close of this meeting, the experts commended the efforts being deployed by ISESCO in the field of early childhood, and its dedicated pursuit of a future perception which is both sensitive to the growing needs and recognizant of specificities of the Muslim communities’ civilizational, cultural and moral identity. Similarly, they lauded ISESCO’s determination to devise a comprehensive, integrated strategy to meet early childhood education and care needs in the third millennium, in harmony with the principles of excellence, quality and competitiveness.

This meeting was supervised by Dr Khadija Ahmed Badaoui, programmes’ specialist at the Education Directorate of ISESCO.
