48 AU countries to participate in Pan-African cultural festival in Algeria

As many as 48 member states from the African Union, apart from the host Algeria, have announced participation in the Second Pan-African Cultural Festival scheduled for July 5-20, Algerian Cultural Minister Khalida Toumi sai.

Toumi said among the 48 countries, 32 have already submitted their lists of participants.

Cultural groups from the United States and Brazil are also expected to show up at the festival, she added.

According to the minister, national troupes from 15 countries as well as 12 independent troupes have confirmed their participation. And 35 African artists will exhibit their works during the festival.

Earlier, Toumi said the Algerian government has established a special fund with 5 billion dinars (about 68.8 million U.S. dollars) to support the event.

The first Pan-African Cultural Festival was held in 1969. (cctv)
