Five radio stations in Gaza have received specialised training from the BBC World Service Trust, as part of the ‘Support to the Palestinian Media Sector’ project funded by the European Union. Journalists working at the radio stations were trained in news management, writing and interviewing skills, news selection, production of news bulletins with audio inserts and programme design, a press release said.

In the West Bank, the BBC World Service Trust also concluded a course of radio training targeting managers, producers, presenters and reporters. The three-week course focused on Understanding Audiences, Breakfast Shows, Package Making, Drivetime Programmes and News Management.

The BBC World Service Trust’s Support to the Palestinian Media Sector is a two-year project with a total budget of €850,000 funded by the EU (80%) and the Dutch government (20%).

The project aims to support the Palestinian media and strengthen its public role through greater commitment to standards of ethical journalism, as well as increase the level of networking and dialogue between media professionals in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
