Al Bashir reaffirms the commitment to achieve peace in Darfur

The President of Sudan Omar Al Bashir, has reaffirmed his government commitment to continue working for achieving a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Darfur, at a time the country is heading for general elections.

The President briefed the committee of the Wisemen of Africa, headed by former south African President Thabo Mbeki, about the government views on how to resolve the humanitarian problems and what were the efforts exerted and steps taken for the resolution of the problems and how the Sudanese government has dealt with the humanitarian issues and the return of the internally displaced people to their home areas.

The Sudanese Minister of Irrigation, Kamal Ali Mohamed, has appreciated the support of the Nile Basin countries to Sudan concerning the false allegations of the International Criminal Court.

Addressing the ministerial meeting of the Nile Basin in Kinshasa, Mohamed commended the existing cooperation between the Nile Basin countries regarding water resources. He pointed out that the meetings involved discussing establishment of more dams and undertaking more water projects on the River Nile and its tributaries.

The Sudanese Minister of Social Affairs and the Deputy Governor of Northern Darfur State, Dr. Ismail Hussein Hashim met on Sunday with a delegation representing the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting touched the issue of training and increasing leadership of the local communities and the workers of the voluntary organizations in the state. Mr Hashim expressed his appreciation towards the efforts exerted by the UNDP and confirmed his ministry's readiness to cooperate with the program to enable it to implement its work in the fields of local cadres and aid workers training in the state.

Among other related events was the International Conference on Women Challenges in Darfur, which took place on Saturday in Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

The conference was organized by the General Union of Sudanese Women in collaboration with the Sudan Open University. The conference was attended by Sudanese and foreign participants.  A document of four axes was presented in the conference on various issues related to women affairs.
