Ahmad Said Al Harthy Oman’s ace Formula racer was on the winners podium for the first round of the 2009 Formula Renault BARC championship at the Oulton Park circuit in the United Kingdom, finishing 3rd.

Al Harthy started the weekend on Friday were his was one of the quickest drivers in very wet and slippery conditions. Qualifying took place on Saturday in dry conditions in a 20 minute session. Ahmad quickly worked his way to the top of the time board clocking a best time of 1min 22.861 seconds, just 0.069 of a second from Dino Zamparelli in second position and 0.295 from Kieran Clark in first place.

“It was a definite change in weather conditions between Fridays free practice compared to qualifying this morning. Qualifying went reasonably well for me, I improved my time on the last lap of qualifying, my time was very close to both second place and the pole sitter”, mentioned Al Harthy.

The first race of the season took place at late afternoon and Al Harthy with his newly branded Formula car had a great start of the line quickly closing into second place runner, the Omani ace was later tapped and was forced wide into the first corner by 4th place driver Joe Crook, only his incredible car control allowed him to regain control of the car and was forced to drop back into 5th position. Ahmad regained his composure and quickly started catching both cars that had passed him. Within two laps Al Harthy who was forced to loose two positions on the first corner took them back with an incredible overtake that saw him pass Brett Parris and Joe Crook in one move.

“I had a great start, and I was about to gain a position before I was hit on my rear right tire, luckily the contact was on the tire and not anywhere else, I managed to hold the car from loosing control. Once I managed to pass and regain my 3rd position I pushed as much as I could. Finishing on the podium is great and scoring championship points in a tricky race was important”, commented Ahmad.

"I want to thank everyone who have made it possible for me to be on todays podium, without their support we would not be here. I wanted to also thank my new partners Oman Air who have been extremely committed in my program, along with all the personal from both The Ministry of sports Affairs and Tourism and Brand Oman", a thankful Ahmad.

Al Harthy is supported by Oman Air, the Ministry of Sports Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism and Brand Oman for the 2009 Formula Renault BARC championship. Round 2 & 3 take place at the Snetterton Circuit from the 26th – 28th of June.
