An EU funded regional project has got under way in Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan aiming to help young women entering the employment market. A press release posted on the Jordanian EU Delegation website said the ‘Women and Work’ programme was cofinanced by the European Training Foundation – a specialised EU agency – and would be focusing on two key sectors in the three countries, information and communication technologies and tourism.

Under the project, companies will be surveyed with regard to their recruitment policies, particularly as far as women are concerned. At the same time, women aged 15-29 from different educational and employment backgrounds will be brought together for focus group discussions to gain an insight into the barriers and opportunities in the labour market. In 2010, country reports and a cross country analysis will be prepared and presented to all stakeholders.

EuropeAid also manages a regional gender equality programme, Enhancing Equality between Men and Women in the Euromed Region, which began at the end of 2008.
