Oman is preparing and taking all the measures to welcome the visitors to Dhofar during the Khareef season. Mohammed bin Hamoud Al Toobi, Undersecretary of the Omani Tourism Ministry, told ONA: “The Dhofar Municipality has taken great care — besides efforts taken by the Tourism Ministry — to develop Salalah Tourist Festival to suit the need of visitors who want to enjoy the festival and the Khareef season,”

“This year, the municipality has opened a number of accommodation and tourist facilities for the benefit of tourists who come calling during Khareef.

“Work is also on to complete and implement major tourist projects, some of which will be inaugurated during the season,” Al Toobi said.

To serve tourists on their way, the municipality has asked petrol-filling stations situated on roads leading to Dhofar to ensure the necessary fuel supplies to cater to the the additional rush during the festival season.

“They have also been asked to maintain proper public utility services,” the undersecretary said. Besides these, the Tourism Ministry has also constructed three mobile toilets to serve long-distance travellers on roads which earlier did not have these services, he said.

The ministry, meanwhile, said it had made elaborate arrangements to promote and market the Khareef season at various regional and international tourism exhibitions throughout this year.

The Sultanate’s tourism potential, the events held during the spectacular Salalah Tourist Festival, besides the services, accommodation and services facilities provided to visitors during the season were highlighted during the tourism exhibitions, he said.

The ministry, he said, is looking forward to a spurt in the number of tourists — especially from within the Sultanate — despite the global economic crisis and the swine flu pandemic.

“In a bid to meet the expected growth in the number of tourists, the ministry, in collaboration with Oman Air, has doubled its flights to Salalah during the season,” he said.

“The governorate has 28 hotel facilities, in addition to several apartments and resthouses,” Al Toobi said.

“Licence to set up five tourist facilities, including three hotels and apartments, have been issued this year and they will be ready to welcome tourists from next year,” the undersecretary said.

He has called upon tourists to ensure a smooth trip by confirming their hotel and ticket reservations in advance.
