Iraq’s oil & gas - Sustainable capability development through education, training and learning

Under the patronage of Dr Al-Shahristani and with the support from the Iraqi Ministries of Oil, Higher Education, and Science and Technology, Getenergy will host a two day event in Istanbul on 16 – 17 October 2009. The meeting will bring oil and gas companies together with education and training providers, including universities, colleges, institutes, training companies, government departments, and service providers. The aim is to address the skills requirements, as identified by the Ministry of Oil, for Iraqi citizens in developing oil and gas industry

The programme includes:
The Government of the Republic of Iraq will explain their vision for the development of Iraq’s oil and gas industry and the contribution that can be made by Iraq’s universities, colleges, institutes, scientific research organisations and international partners.
- Dr Hussain Al-Shahristani, Minister of Oil
- Dr Abid Dhiyab al-Ujayli, Minister of Higher Education
- Dr Raid Jahid Fahmi, Minister of Science and Technology

Senior representation from Iraqi’s organisations includes:
-    Hammed Al-Saeidi, Deputy Director General. North Oil Company
-    Deyaa Jaafer Hajam, Director General. South Oil Company
-    Mr. Dalman, Deputy DG of Reservoirs. Ministry of Oil
-    Sadik Al-Yasery. Deputy DG. Iraq Drilling Co.
-    Nihad Moosa, Director General, Training and Development Directorate, Ministry of Oil

Ms. Nihad Moosa, DG, Training and Development Directorate Ministry of Oil, comments, “We are pleased to confirm the participation of senior oil/gas and educational institution from Iraq in this important international meeting in what we expect to be the start of a long term relationship between the Getenergy Community and Iraq”.
The objectives of the programme are to help address and resolve four keys issues, central to the sustainable capability development of the Iraqi oil and gas workforce:

- How education and training requirements are currently being met in the Iraqi oil and gas industry.
- The Ministry of Oil’s identification of the requirements in education and training in the oil and gas industry as part of their strategy for the next five years; including details of requirements for existing and future projects in exploration and production.
- How International companies and institutions can support a collaborative effort towards capability development and meeting the five-year education and training requirements of the industry.
- Bring together national and international organisations, institutions and companies that have the capacity to deliver education and training for the oil and gas industry in Iraq.
