Director of Tartus Ruins Department Marwan Hasan announced the end of the seasonal archaeological explorations undergone annually, unearthing some of Tartus (Syrian City) cultural and historic treasures.

Explorations this year revealed new hidden tombs and archeological sites in the governorate, the most important of which was a tomb in al-Jbab village in Drekeish where the indications pointed to a collective tomb there.

The tomb is s natural one engraved in stone that can be entered through a gate at the southern side.

Elsewhere in Banias, an archeological site consisting of a mass of rock submerged in lime was unearthed. Subsequent explorations revealed a cliff split at the front.

In Kadmous, two ancient tombs engraved in stone were unearthed, the first being a square room that can be entered through a gate at the northern side, whereas the second is comprised of a gate and a hall.

In Amrit, exploration unearthed a collective tomb of sandstone, which is a square tomb that can be entered through an external rectangular entrance consisting of seven rungs; the fourth and third being separated by a huge rock gate blocking the entrance (SANA)
