World Health Organization (WHO) spokesperson Paul Garwood said on Tuesday that his organization was requested to provide help to people affected by the ongoing conflict in certain regions of Yemen.

Garwood told reporters that supplies for 200 surgical interventions for trauma injuries were accordingly dispatched.

He added that a large supply of medical assistance will arrive from Cairo next week as well.

Jordan would present support to Yemen in fields of training Yemeni medical cadres ,Jordanian Health Minister Nayef al-Fayez said on Tuesday.

In a statement to Saba upon his leaving Sana'a, al-Fayez added that Jordan would send Jordanian medical missions to the Yemeni hospitals to perform surgical operations in nerves and heart areas.

Al-Fayez affirmed his country's keenness on enhancing the health cooperation between Yemen and Jordan.

During his visit to Yemen, the Jordanian minister paid visits to some hospitals in Sana'a, Dhamar and Ibb provinces, expressing his admiration for the development that Yemen achieved in the health field.

Al-Fayez arrived in Yemen last Friday for a few-day official visit for talks on mutual cooperation.

Houthi rebels storm camp for displaced

Yemeni Houthi rebels embroiled in weeklong skirmishes with government forces stormed a camp in northern Yemen housing thousands displaced during years of warfare and seized humanitarian aid, a local aid group said on Monday.

Houthi rebels burst into Al-Ind camp and took away aid supplies from the site on the outskirts of Saada, capital of the rugged mountainous province of the same name, the head of Yemen's Red Crescent said.

The Red Crescent asked the government to suspend hostilities for two days so the aid workers could relocate the displaced population to other camps away from the fighting, Abdul-Qader Shaweet said.

"Some families refused to move out of Al-Ind Camp, likely under pressure from the rebels,"Shaweet said.

The rebels, led by Abdel-Malek al-Huthi, have been engaged in fighting with government forces on and off since 2004. The government accuses them of seeking to reinstate imamate rule, which ended in a republican coup in 1962.

Yemen's Red Crescent, along with international aid groups, oversees three camps in the province of Saada that house around 12,000 displaced families, providing them with humanitarian needs, such as food and bed covers.

The Cairo-based Arab League (AL) expressed its deep concern on Monday over clashes between Yemeni army forces and Houthi rebels in Saada province, hoping that stability could return to Yemen soon.

AL is following the latest developments in Yemen on daily basis and making contacts with Yemeni officials over such developments, Ahmed Bin Heli, AL assistant secretary general, said in a statement on Monday.

He expressed his hope that stability could return to Yemen as soon as possible, stressing on the importance of protecting the unity of the country. (Saba, Xinhua, AP, AFP, Reuters)
