Beirut meeting - Mediterranean water management issues in focus

The Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations (MENBO) is organising its General Assembly in Beirut (Lebanon) on 6-8 October 2009, concentrating on the specific issues of water management in the Mediterranean basin.

According to a press release, the meeting will be organised around three main topics:
1.   Water and agriculture in Mediterranean Basin Management.
2.   Adaptation to climate change and water saving.
3.   Usefulness of the tools of the European Water Framework Directive in the Mediterranean Partner Countries.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, a meeting will also be organised by the EU-funded EMWIS project for the Water monitoring network working group. This workshop will focus on the results of the water monitoring networks survey recently undertaken among Mediterranean countries.

EMWIS/SEMIDE, funded by the EU’s Regional Programme, focuses on the exchange of information and knowledge in the water sector among and within the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
