Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika was officially invited on Thursday by his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez to participate in the Africa-South America Summit on September 26-27 in Margarita Island, Venezuela.

Following talks between the two leaders, Chavez said that the two sides were in agreement that this summit needed to make a difference for their people, and that it should not be one of rhetoric.

The Venezuelan leader added, "We want to change this, and President Bouteflika, with his great experience, has presented us with important suggestions in relation to the methodology we need to adopt during this summit.

" He added that the summit would be discussing matters of strategic dimensions, including cooperation between the African Union and the Union of South American Nations, as well as food security, providing medication, the energy crisis, financial problems, and securing the necessary resources for the development of the two continents.

Chavez highlighted  the willingness of Algeria and Venezuela to consolidate their bilateral relations in all the realms. "We want to consolidate the economic, trade, energy and technologic ties and upgrade them to the level of our excellent political relations," President Chavez declared to the press after the talks he had with President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

President Chavez, on a working and friendship visit to Algeria, said that the two countries will elaborate a new working plan to develop cooperation, recalling in this context the holding of next October of the Algerian-Venezuelan Joint Commission. About energy sector, he urged for strengthening cooperation in oil and gas fields.

This is the second day of Chavez's two-day visit to Algeria.
