ALHOSN University, an Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, is set to maintain its leadership in the local educational sector as it enters its 5th Academic Year in 2009.  Prof. Abdul-Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor

and CEO of ALHOSN, outlined several factors contributing to the university's success despite the downturn and new facilities and services for the coming year during a General Staff Meeting held recently at ALHOSN's Male Campus.

In his welcome speech, Prof. Sabouni attributed ALHOSN's excellent performance to the team spirit of the entire university community. He noted that the city campus now includes six buildings with the addition of the Studio Building across the Women's Main Building. The Vice Chancellor also thanked the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Holding Company and the Board of Trustees of ALHSON University for their continuous support of the institution's advancement. He encouraged the university's 21 new faculty, teaching and support staff to reach their full potential and serve students to the best of their abilities.

"We will continue to invest in our staff and our facilities in order to provide our students with the best possible learning environment and thus realize our motto of  'Global Knowledge with Local Vision.' This university has such a highly qualified and dedicated group of professionals. We underestimate our potentials if we do not strive for the best, and we do ourselves a disservice if we do not achieve it. We have all the ingredients to succeed. We shall continue providing the best education to our students while making our atmosphere at ALHOSN most convenient, productive and enriching to all of us," said Prof. Sabouni.

Prof. Sabouni discussed matters concerning student affairs, emphasizing that employees should properly balance their high quality standards with their good relations among students. He then spoke of several issues related to faculty and teaching staff, noting that their development depends on the three key foundations of Teaching, Scientific Research, and University and Community Services. Finally, the Vice Chancellor gave general instructions to the attendees covering innovation, conflict resolution, professionalism, and participation in social and family events.

ALHOSN has accepted about 200 new students. The university recently launched its new website and online portal featuring advanced internet technologies, improved user interfaces, and a virtual learning environment powered by the Moodle Open Source course management system. Its home page was visited around 50,000 times as of August 31, 2009.

ALHOSN has been highly visible in the media via initiatives such as its establishment of the UAE's first Women in Engineering Society as well as its participation in several high-profile events including GETEX Dubai 2009 and the UAE Ministry of Education's 3rd Elite Exhibition. The 831 per cent increase in its 2009 summer enrolment over 2006 reflects the institution's growing popularity as a learning provider of choice in Abu Dhabi's highly competitive education sector.

ALHOSN University offers 18 undergraduate and graduate programs in three faculties accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE. Its City Campus includes the Men's Campus, the Women's Campus, Library Building, Lectures Building, the Engineering Labs Building and the newly-built Studio Building.
