Jerusalem - Security tight for Ramadan prayers
Saturday, 19 September 2009 00:22

Under tight Israeli security, tens of thousands of Muslim worshippers flock to the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem to pray on the fourth and last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

The al-Aqsa mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem, the third holiest Muslim shrine, draws thousands of Muslim worshippers, but the full closure imposed by Israel on the occupied West Bank left many unable to attend.

An Israeli police spokesman told Reuters that thousands of police forces were deployed in the Old City area and that 75,000 worshippers from Israel, Jerusalem and the West Bank held their Friday prayers at al-Aqsa.
