Saudi Arabia - Swine flu awareness campaign in educational facilities

A swine flu prevention program for medical staff in Saudi schools will be in effect tomorrow as a step in line with the Education Ministry's fight against the disease.
Education Undersecretary Faisal Al-Omar told the press that the ministry had set up a comprehensive strategy to spread awareness on the swine flu through the training of medical staff in schools' nurseries.

The program will last for two days to train medical staff in the Riyadh, Makkah, Madina, East Cost region, and other regions of the Kingdoms, said the official, hoping that such effort would be of effect against the swine flu virus.

Saudi Health Ministry announced that one million antiviral shots for the A (H1N1) or swine flu will arrive within the next three weeks, to be followed by other dispatches of some six million shots.

The announcement was made by Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah during the launching of an awareness campaign against the pandemic. The campaign is co-organized by the ministries of health and education in the kingdom.

Indications of the virus severity in spreading are "good", the minister said, noting that outcomes for the small pilgrimage (Ummra) season last Ramadan came "excellent" and fatality-free.
