Emirates Film Competition Announces Final Films

Abu Dhabi Film Commission has announced the final films in competition at the 9th Emirates Film Competition for this year. Out of 142 submissions only 14 films were selected in competition this year from UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman and they are:

Shorts - UAE Competition: Crossing (Premiere) by Ali Jamal, Young Sadness by Hani Al Sheibani, Al Hamra Island in the eyes of filmmakers by Ahmed Zein and Ahmed Arshi, , Key by Ahmed Zain, Temporary Drought (Premiere) by Yasser Saeed Al Neyadi and Paradise Evening (Premiere) by Juma Al Sahili.

Shorts- GCC Competition: Three Men and a Woman by Abdulmohsen AlDhabaan, Whiteness (Primiere) by Khaled Salem Al Kalbani, Burning Flowers by Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed, Whispers of Sin (Premiere) by Abdulrahman Al Khalifi and Yassin By Jamal Alghailan

Features Competition: Our Right to Ride (Middle East Premiere) by Hanan Abdulla Mohammed Al Muhairi, The Fifth Chamber Ouija by Maher Al Khaja and Hotel (Premiere) by Hani Al Shaibani.

The Emirates Film Competition aims to encourage the production of short, feature, documentary, and animated films by Emirati filmmakers. It also provides an opportunity for GCC nationals and non-nationals to discus and share their work with each other, as well as participate in short master classes and workshops. Through a number of funding initiatives, travel bursaries to film festivals and assistance with distribution, Abu Dhabi Film Commission will continue to provide production opportunities for emerging Emirati filmmakers who have completed short, feature or documentary film.

The screenings of the films in competition will take place during the Middle East International Film Festival from October 8th and the final winners will be announced on the 16th of October.

Abu Dhabi Film Commission is an initiative launched by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage with an objective of assisting the development of the Film and TV industry in Abu Dhabi, nurturing of new talent and contributing to the promotion of Arab culture through film.
