Oman, Yemen to enhance joint economic cooperation

Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Omani Minster of Commerce and Industry and Dr Yahya bin Yahya al Mutawakil his Yemeni counterpart held a meeting at Crowne Plaza hotel with members of the Oman-Yemen business council. The aim of the meeting was to enhance joint economic co-operation in trade and investment sectors. It aimed in particular to removing obstacles to private joint ventures.

Maqbool led the Omani side and Al Mutawakil the Yemeni side. The talks tackled joint co-operation on trade and economy, trade exchange and facilitating cargo traffic flow at Al Mazyounah and Shahn border points. Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Commerce and Industry Under-Secretary, who attended the talks, said trade exchange between the two countries is on the increase. He said proposals to be implemented in the future include forming a trade team to further study issues considered in yesterday’s meeting including flow of trade across the border, setting up Oman-Yemen joint companies and facilitating customs procedures.

Meanwhile, the 3rd meeting of the Oman-Yemen business council meeting reviewed the size of trade and investment exchange and streamlining procedures at the border entry points. The businessmen also assessed implementation of previous recommendations and further facilities for exporting national commodities including to GCC countries and export finance.
