Khalifa Award for Education held today (Monday, October 5, 2009) a press conference at Hall 119 in Kuwait University, Kuwait to communicate with the educational authorities and raise awareness about the mechanics and criteria of the Award's third edition. The event is also aimed to encourage various eligible institutions and personalities in Kuwait's education sector to participate in the Award.

Dr. Khaled Al Ebry and Mr. Humaid Ibrahim Abdullah, Members of the Awards Executive Committee, headed the UAE delegation that conducted the presentation. Similar presentations are also being held in Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia and Qatar.

Khalifa Award for Education, which is inspired by the motto "Be Distinguished," reflects the UAE's commitment to elevate the standards of national and regional education to new levels. It will also acknowledge eminent educators and influential Arab personalities who have made valuable contributions in the field of education, as the Award's council of trustees believes that efforts made in education across the UAE and abroad are truly integral to each other.

Among its many objectives, the Award aims to encourage and promote excellence and creativity among educators in the UAE and the Arab World. Educators will be given the opportunity to implement innovative educational programs and projects, while it will also serve as a venue to honour educators of students with special needs. The Award also promotes the implementation of modern technology as a means to enrich the educational field, while highlighting insightful experiences from across the GCC, the Arab region that would positively impact students. In addition, the Award seeks to reinforce the status of Arabic as the official language of the UAE, which is achieved through sustained efforts to develop the Arabic curriculum within all levels of education across the country.

In the area of higher education, the Award is granted to outstanding educators including teachers, academics, researchers and administrators. Whether in academic or local communities, in the UAE or Arab World, in public or private universities, institutions accredited in the UAE or in the region, the Award will recognise excellence in every field. Endorsed by ministries of higher education, the Award will honour one academic in the UAE and one academic in the Arab world.

The Award is also granted to institutions engaged in the education of people with special needs. Innovations in educational programs and projects as well as extensive research conducted on national and regional levels will also be recognised by the Khalifa Award for Education. The Award will also recognise evaluation studies of the Arabic language in the existing UAE curriculums, revised models of Arabic language curriculum and teaching techniques at the various stages of public education. Also covered by the Award are book writing for Arab children and biographical accounts of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in recognition of all the achievements of His Highness and for being the initiator and sponsor of the Award.

Khalifa Award for Education is an opening that shall enhance and positively influence the education field, which empowers and contributes in the sustained development of their respective countries.
