Oman to set up 18 scientific research projects

Dr Saif bin Abdullah al Hadabi, Assistant Secretary-General for Research and Scientific Programmes at the Council, said that the council has agreed to finance 18 scientific research projects at a cost of RO 2.5 million. The projects cover energy, industry, environment, biological resources, culture and basic sciences, education, human resources, health, service of society, communications and information technology sectors.
His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tareq al Said, His Majesty the Sultan's Adviser and Chairman of the Scientific Research Council (SRC), chaired the 13th meeting of the council.

The Scientific Research Council will contact the researchers and the establishments concerned to inform them about the final results of assessment tasks, as well as adjudicators remarks, Dr Al Hadabi. The meeting discussed a number of topics including follow-up of decisions taken at the previous meeting. It also reviewed the outcome of research proposals submitted by institutions being linked electronically to the first term of the Open Research Scholarships Programme. The council has received 39 research proposals on six sectors that were revised by the research sector committees which formed electronic voting lists to be sent to arbitrators.

After being verified and classified as per research quality standards, the proposals were submitted to the Open Research Scholarships Committee. The committee is headed by the Secretary-General of the National Economy Ministry. The council also discussed the programmes being implemented within the context of the Seventh Five-Year Development Plan, including research programmes, awareness and information programmes, as well as support for innovation and information infrastructure programmes. A briefing was given on means of raising public awareness adopted by the council in co-ordination with the media.
