Hani Al Shaibani best short film maker in UAE and Gulf

Abu Dhabi – Emirati director Hani Al Shaibani won the two major awards at the 9th season of the Emirates Film Competition organized by Abu Dhabi Film Commission, one of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage ADACH projects.

Al Shaibani was given the best short film award in UAE(50,000 UAD) for his film “Ahzan Sagheera” (Young Sadness) and best feature film from the Gulf region (100,000 UAD ) for his film “Al Fundoq” (The Hotel) in the closing ceremony held Friday night at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi .

The competition run from October 12 to 15 as part of the third session of Middle East International Film Festival MEIFF to be concluded this Saturday, aims to encourage the production of short, feature, documentary, and animated films by Emirati filmmakers. It also provides an opportunity for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals and non-nationals to discuss and share their work with each others, as well as participate in short master classes and workshops.

In the category of Emirates short films the juries give a special award (50,000 UAD ) for the film “Uboor” (Crossing) for the director Ali Jamal.

The jury decided to withheld the award of best short documentary film but due to the importance of the film “Al Jazera Al Hamra” (The Red Island) the jury decided to give a special appreciation award (10,000 UAD )for the film directed by Ahmed Zain and Ahmed Arshi.

In the category of Gulf short film competition the award of best film from Gulf region (50,000 UAD) was given for the Bahraini film “Azhar Tahtareq” (Burning Flowers) by the director Mohammed Ibrahim.

Jury’s special award (50,000 UAD) in this category was given for the Omani Film “Bayad” (Whiteness) for the director Khalid Al Kalbani.

In the category of feature film from the Gulf region the jury decided to withheld the award of best documentary film, but due to the importance of the film “Haqna Fi Alforosiyya” (Our Right to Rid) for Emirati director Hanan Al Muhairi the jury decided to give a special appreciation award (20,000 UAE)
