Oman’s preparations for second Asian Beach Games well under way

Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) officials and Technical Delegates for the second Asian Beach Games inspected the Muscat 2010 venues at Al Musanaa Sports City together with the Muscat Asian Beach Games Organising Committee (MABGOC). “Construction at Al Musanaa Sports City (first Athletes Villages by the sea) is well under way and will be completed in time for the Games.

The OCA and the Technical Delegates inspection of the site is beneficial as it gives them a clear idea of what exactly the setup is like and how competitions for the Games will be arranged,” said Taha Suleiman al Kishry, MABGOC Deputy Director-General for Operations. The site tour comes after the successful first OCA-Technical Delegates Joint Meeting held on Sunday.

“Our visits to the sites have helped us to have a comprehensive understanding of the second Asian Beach Games preparations; along with the hard work of MABGOC, and the support extending from the OCA, the Asian federations, the Technical Delegates, and the Competition Managers, I am confident the Games will be a great success!” commented visiting official Zhang Jilong.

The Technical Delegates have expressed satisfaction with the venues’ presentations and progresses, and provided very helpful feedback to MABGOC in the organising of the sports programme. Individual meetings between them and the respective Competition Managers have been held to further develop the requirements and setup of the competitions.

Technical Delegates and representatives who participated in the first OCA-TD Joint Meeting were Ahmad A A N H Alfailakawi from Asian Handball Federation (AHF), Ejjapureddi Prasad Rao from Asian Amateur Kabaddi Federation (AAKF), Abdul Halim bin Abdulkader from Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF), Alejandro Magi Soriano Tous from Federation Internationale de Football Association (Fifa), Anthony Nubla Liao from Asian Volleyball Federation (AVF), Hussain Ahmed Ali al Saffar from Asian Body-building Federation (ABBF), Stephen Lou from International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA), Ziyad Mohammed Kashmiri from Asian Amateur Swimming Federation (AASF), Hong Kit Lock from Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF), Qi Juan Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC), Huang Chun-Ching from Asian Woodball Federation (AWBF).

The second Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event sanctioned by the Olympic Council of Asia and will be held from December 8-16 next year. The Games encourage Asia’s youth to participate in sport and celebrate the vast and varied cultures found across the continent. It works to uplift national pride and create a festival of co-operation and camaraderie.

The Asian Beach Games are composed of a variety of modern sports as well as variations on traditional sports. Eleven sports are on the Muscat 2010 programme: beach soccer, beach handball, beach kabaddi, beach sepaktakraw, beach volleyball, body-building, jet ski, marathon swimming, sailing, triathlon and woodball.
