The Information Technology Authority of Oman (ITA) and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) extended the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed in October 2007 to collaborate on various aspects of ICT. These include the use of ICT in government and various economic sectors such as education, finance, healthcare and tourism, and promoting exchanges on the use of ICT by the government and private sectors.

The extension was signed by Dr Salim al Ruzaiqi, Chief Executive Officer of the ITA, and Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive Officer of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. Both parties will continue with the experience and knowledge sharing in this collaboration on ICT, and explore co-operation on projects which will be implemented by both the public and private sectors.

Several projects were initiated following the signing of the MoU in 2007, such as the development of the Oman eGovernment Enterprise Architecture, the Ubar E-Government Portal and the establishment of a Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Oman. Ronnie Tay said: “Singapore has gained much experience in the development and implementation of a wide range of ICT projects in the government and various economic sectors over the years. The deep domain knowledge and expertise of Singapore info-com companies can contribute to the development and adoption of ICT in Oman.”

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is a statutory board of the Singapore Government. It operates under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA). In its efforts to develop, promote and regulate Singapore"s info-com industry, IDA is guided by iN2015, a 10-year info-com masterplan to help Singapore realise the potential of info-com over the next decade.

IDA is committed to growing Singapore into a dynamic global info-com hub and it uses an integrated approach to developing Info-communications in Singapore. This involves nurturing a competitive telecoms market as well as a conducive business environment with programmes and schemes for both local and international companies. In the Middle East, IDA aims to encourage and facilitate collaboration between Middle Eastern and Singapore info-com businesses in the areas of e-government, info-com security, healthcare, education and financial services.
