PM: Malaysia welcomes GCC investors
Saturday, 07 November 2009 14:58
Asian_Strategy__Leadership_Institute
I would like to congratulate the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce which groups the Chambers of Commerce of the Gulf countries for collaborating with the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI) to organise the Inaugural Malaysia-Arab Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur to promote closer bilateral relationships between Malaysia and the GCC countries.

I warmly welcome the Arab business delegation to Malaysia led by HE Abdul Rahim Naqi, Secretary-General of the Federation of GCC Chambers as well as other leading Arab entrepreneurs and investors to Malaysia.

This Forum, I believe, marks, if not celebrate the Special Links Malaysia has with the Arab countries. Malaysia and the Gulf countries have a close relationship for a long time.

We continue to seek new ways and avenues to further enhance and strengthen our bilateral ties. Malaysia can be a regional hub or a springboard to the wider ASEAN market of over 550 million people whilst the Gulf countries can be a springboard for Malaysian companies and investors to the wider Middle-East market. Exchanges of trade and investment missions, tourists, students and government officials can only Further deepen our close relationship.

My government has embarked on a series of liberalization measures that have opened up the services sector for more foreign participation.

Malaysian properties continue to be a good strategic investment. The Growth Corridors in Malaysia, in particular the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) and the Iskandar Development Region (lOR) offers viable and exciting opportunities for foreign investors, including investors from the Middle East. The Malaysian government continues to be pro-business and market-friendly to facilitate investments in Malaysia.

As we seek to transform the Malaysian economy into a high-income country through a new growth model, 1 believe there will be enormous opportunities for mutual collaboration in Islamic Finance, Halal Food, Tourism, Education and Training,
Construction & Property Development, Green Technology and Renewable Energy.

I invite our Arab brothers to consider investing in Malaysia- Your Profit Centre in Asia.

I believe that there is tremendous scope for closer cooperation between our entrepreneurs and businessmen from both the Gulf countries and Malaysia. I hope you will seize the opportunities we have in Malaysia and seek out viable investment opportunities in Malaysia. My government is ready to help facilitate your investment.

I hope you will have a fruitful stay in Malaysia and I wish you great success in your Malaysia-Arab Business Forum.
