UCI International welcomed over 140 attendees to the Global Investor Window 2009 at the Churchill Hyatt Hotel in London on the 29th and 30th of October 2009.

The UCI team worked for many months to ensure the participation of leading international investors, advisors, and commentators on current global climate. The conference provided insight into the way forward for Islamic Finance in 2010 and beyond – as well as practical advice for those currently seeking funding.

The conference featured an excellent set of speakers, with a keynote from Bert van der Vaart of Small Enterprise Advisory Fund, who set the scene by providing an overview on the global investment climate.

Three panel discussions took place. In the first, six leading global investors give their advice on how to obtain investment partners. In the second, experts from the Islamic International Foundation for Economics and Finance (IIFEF) examined Islamic finance as a solution to the current financial crisis. And in the third panel discussion, which was moderated by Davide Barzilai of the law firm, Norton Rose, panellists drew distinctions between conventional banks and Islamic banks.

In addition, there were a number of “Investment Showcase Presentations”, in which delegates described their investment-ready projects in a variety of sectors, including real estate, manufacturing, and solar energy.

The conference also featured two outstanding presentations from Islamic Finance scholars, Sheikh Ali Al Qaradghi and Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Salih Al Attram. They provided an in-depth look at Islamic Funding as a productive and ethical way forward for the world of international investment.

Excellent Results: The Global Investor Window 2009 achieved its objective of facilitating productive interaction among investors, Islamic banks, delegates, and Islamic Finance scholars. Several of the projects that were presented at the conference have advanced to promising discussions between potential partners. In addition, several projects that were discussed but not presented at the event have also been the subject of follow-up meetings.

The conference attracted a broad array of participants from not just Islamic Finance areas, but also from conventional financial institutions and professional services who are interested in general investment opportunities and those of Islamic finance.

UCI has had a tremendous response to the conference and are pleased that we have succeeded in fulfilling the event objectives. We would like to thank all those who took part for their support of this event -- and very much look forward to welcoming everyone to UCI's next event.

Islamic Scholars Keynotes

This conference has to be noted for the contribution made by our two Scholars: Sheikh Ali Al Qaradghi and Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Salih Al Attram. With Arabic translation provided, both these experts provided a detailed look at the current financial crisis and the key solutions to it through Islamic finance and banking.

“We would like to thank your Excellency for the wonderful performance of GIW 2009 where the arrangement and co-ordination revealed your professionalism in preparing for such events, so it is worthy that we congratulate you for your success”
Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Salih Al Attram, Secretary General, IIFEF

IIFEF Panel Discussion

The Islamic International Foundation for Economics and Finance (IIFEF) panel discussion was one that could have been an event in itself. Plenty of questions were raised from the audience which provoked some very interesting discussion. Our thanks to the representatives of IIFEF who contributed to this session

“The Global Investor Window 2009” is a unique opportunity for scholars, investors, bankers and all concerns for Islamic finance. It was a very fruitful gathering; thus it is equally important to invite the Gulf Sovereign wealth funds (SWF) for such future meetings and the SWFs to work closely with Islamic Development Bank and other investors to establish an international Islamic Bank for the purpose of serving the finance and investments needs requirements of private individuals and businesses in the U.K and Europe. A bank as such in our point of view is an urgent within this current financial crisis."
Dr Samer Al Hammad, IIFEF 29/10/2009

Investment Showcase Presentations

Excellent presentations were given on particularly interesting and high-calibre projects, which got the investors listening and talking.

“We thought the Global Investor Window 2009 was very informative as we have enjoyed the several panel discussions and the one on one meetings, we also would like to express our thanks to all the UCI team for organizing and managing such event.”
Waleed Mohammed, Kuwait Finance House

“It was a great pleasure to attend your event. I thank you personally for all the assistance you offered.”
Dr Omar Zuhair Hafiz, Executive President & CEO, ACIG, Saudi Arabia
