The second version of the book ‘Castles and Forts in Oman‘ in addition to the English version was published. The book comes as part of the great efforts patronized by the builder of contemporary Oman and leader of its renaissance His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to highlight the different spiritual, thought and cultural aspects of the Omani heritage in a bid to assist the generations to inspire from their rich history  creative talents that integrate the pillars of present and future.

It is worth mentioning that the book was published by the office of Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers. The book documents the great and continuous efforts undertaken by historians, researchers and specialists from inside and outside the Sultanate. It also highlights the Omani people recognition of their cultural identity. It also reflect the persistence and creativity at the castles, forts and  towers, at the different parts of the Sultanate; which represent a unique defensive model invented by Omanis and developed in the successive eras. Through these castles and forts, Omanis have made their great victories over the conquerors. The original architectural designs are reminiscent of the rich history of Oman and the vital cultural role it has played throughout the ages.

The book ‘Castles and Forts in Oman‘ includes a number of studies that have been conducted on a number of castles, forts, towers and historic buildings that have been surveyed, portraited and photographed with their ancient traditional style. The second version also covered the efforts undertaken by the government of His Majesty the Sultan to maintain and restore these castles and forts. The book also provides a detailed description for the development of the Omani architectural design throughout the ages. It presents 130 models of castles and forts in the Sultanate. It also includes a dictionary of geography that includes topography information and detailed description of the buildings. The book is an added value to the documentary, heritage and historic library in the Sultanate. It is also a useful reference for researchers, specialists and all those interested in heritage and culture, especially it is the outcome of accurate scientific field studies for the Omani unique architecture.

The book falls in 228 pages of big size. It includes four parts. The first is a historic introduction and includes four chapters. The second ‘Castles and fortified houses' includes 11 chapters. The third  'the design, building and decoration styles' includes two chapters. The fourth part is titled ‘the geographic dictionary. The book includes a number of important and impressive pictures.
