Archaeological findings: Mosaic painting from Byzantine era unearthed in Syria

The Syrian National archaeological expedition working at the archaeological site of Tall al-Kasra, west of Deir Ezzour (Northeast Syria) recently unearthed a mosaic painting dates back to the Byzantine era. It is the first of its kind in the Syrian al-Jazera and Euphrates valley.

Director of the national expedition conducting excavations in the area, Y'roub Abdullah said: " The painting, which was found in a Byzantine bath, dates back to the 5th century AD. It shows two scenes; one of them is a duck and the other is for a pair of fish facing each other.

The painting also contains various geometric and vegetal shapes.

The national archaeological expedition has been working in Tall Kasra since 2006. (SANA)
