Oman to promote modern technologies in industry

Under the auspices of Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Commerce and Industry Minister and Chairman of the Public Establishments for Industrial Estates (PEIE), a conference on the role of concepts and modern technologies in industry kicked off today in Muscat at Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The Commerce and Industry Minister stated that the industrial sector is very important as it plays an important role in the socioeconomic development, growth of exports and transfer of technology. He affirmed that the conference will help industrialists especially SMEs to have better idea on the technology, training and employment of Omanis, using new technologies, benefiting from foreign markets in marketing as well as other issues of interest for industry.

He hoped that the companies, especially SMEs will benefit from the outcome and recommendations of the conference, pointing out that PEIE has a center for industrial innovation which is ready to assist industrialists who want to develop their industries.

Hilal bin Hamad al Hasni , CEO of the PEIE gave a speech at the beginning of the conference saying that the conference aims at promoting dialogue, exchanging views, listening to proposals, recommendations and discussing the issues of common interest in a bid to enhance the industrial investment in the Sultanate and overcome the challenges facing it.

He also pointed out that the conference aims at helping the factories to maintain their competitiveness at the market and encouraging investments in the Industrial Estates.

He also pointed out that the conference will cover a number of issues such as training, nationalization of cadres in companies, how to overcome challenges and difficulties facing the industrial projects, how to improve the image of the downstream industries in society, as well as, export status and challenges facing it.
