The EU-funded project Invest in Med is holding the first Mediterranean Film Trade Show MovieMed 2010, bringing together 50 public and private sector leaders of the Mediterranean audiovisual and tourism sectors.

A press release said the event, to take place in Marseille, France on 18 and 19 January 2010, aims to promote Mediterranean film production through better information on the resources of the area and will allow producers and Mediterranean film commissions to meet and develop common interests with tourism professionals through professional workshops and meetings.

The trade show will include ‘pitch’ sessions presenting projects to potential partners from the Mediterranean tourism industry. It aims at creating a Mediterranean network of film and tourism professionals, on front stage and able to attract more shoots to its region. The two days are organised around a ‘Project Market’, a ‘Master Class on Mediterranean Coproduction’ and a training workshop on ‘Shoot Facilitation Services’. A special exhibition and meeting area will be provided. It will also be the opportunity to discover the MovieMed Study, carried out by the Economic Resources Centre of the Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce. The study covers the MovieMed partner countries: Egypt, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia.

Invest in Med is a Euro-Mediterranean Network of organisations, funded by the EU with a budget of €9 million, committed to investment promotion and trade facilitation, strengthening SME collaboration and exchange of best practices.  It aims to increase the abilities and efficiency of Mediterranean Investment Promotion Agencies, thus enabling more foreign direct investment in the Mediterranean Partner Countries. This multi-country platform supports the economic development of the Mediterranean and reinforces cooperation between European and Mediterranean IPAs.

The EU also funds a regional programme, Euromed Audiovisual, which aims to contribute to intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity through support to building cinematographic and audiovisual capacity in the region.
