UAE - Chefs compete to create camel meat and dairy dishes during Al Dhafra Festival

Abu_Dhabi_Camel_Festival
UAE (Abu Dhabi) - Head Chefs of major hotels in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai will compete to create gourmet dishes using camel meat and its dairy products during Al Dhafra Festival to start Saturday in Zayed City in Al Gharbia (the Western Region).

The festival organized annually by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) under the patronage of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, from 30 January to 8 february with multi events that reflects UAE’s heritage.

The competition, Tastes of Tradition, will take place in the first five days of the festival where chefs are required to create a menu of a starter, main course and dessert.  A panel of specialized judges will evaluate the entries. 

The competition aims to reinforce the vital role camel meat and its dairy products play in the local culture and how to adapt it into modern cuisine.

Winners will be given cash prizes and certificate of appreciation in the last day of the festival February 8.

The Dhafra Festival is an annual event held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.  It is an event inspired by culture and heritage. Considered a means of building bridges between the generations and of instilling a national identity and a love for heritage and culture in the hearts of the younger generations.

The Dhafra Festival also aims to:
·    Preserve the authentic camel breeds of Asayil and Majaheem.
·    Introduce Bedouin culture.
·    Encourage cultural tourism.
·    Create a market for the sale of camels.
·    Create a market for dates, through innovative competitions.
·    Revive and market traditional UAE handicrafts.
·    Situate Zayed City in the Western Region as an international tourist destination.
·    Activate economic growth in the Western Region.
