Oman & Brunei to boost tourism and investments

An official session of talks between Oman and Brunei, held in Muscat explored areas of joint co-operation in the tourism sector. The Omani side was headed by Dr Rajha bint Abdulameer bin Ali, Tourism Minister, while Pehin Dato Yahya Haji Bakar, Brunei Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, led his country’s delegation. The two sides also reviewed means of establishing new infrastructure and encouraging foreign investment in this vital sector.

Dr Rajha gave a briefing on the tourism development strategy pursued by the Sultanate in the areas of promotion and domestic tourism ventures development, with a view to maintaining the Omani society"s genuine and historical identity in the tourism sites. Pehin Dato Yahya Haji Bakar outlined the general objectives of his visit, noting that it aims at enhancing tourism co-operation and exchanging expertise and tourist groups, encouraging businessmen to invest in the tourism sector in both countries and providing suitable facilities in this regard. He also gave some examples of Brunei Darussalam"s experience in developing tourism and attracting particular tourism markets

Boost investments

On the other hand, Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, Oman minister of national economy and deputy chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council, received the delegation led by Pehin Dato Yahya Haji Bakar.

The meeting discussed topics related to promoting investment between the two countries. It also discussed ventures in which the Omani-Brunei joint company could invest.

The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Dr Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Hinai, undersecretary of the National Economy Ministry for economic affairs and the ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Sultanate.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Salmi, minister of Awqaf and religious affairs, also received here yesterday Pehin Dato Yahya Haji Bakar.

At the meeting, bilateral relations were discussed and cordial conversations on issues of common interest between the two countries were
