Oman Investor Conference highlights investment potential in Arab region

Two-day international conference, began yesterday in Oman at the Shangri-La's Barr al Jissa resort and organised by the BankMuscat, is to shed light on the abundant investment opportunities in the Arab Gulf region. BankMuscat is organising this under the aegis of its Brokerage Division in Oman and the investment banking subsidiary in Saudi Arabia, Muscat Securities House.

The conference is aimed at showcasing prime investment opportunities and encouraging investors to contribute and gain from the country’s economic growth.

AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Chief Executive of BankMuscat, Wael al Lawati, CEO of Omran, and Margaret Ruth Purcell, Chief Economist, BankMuscat, addressed the gathering that included dignitaries, key government and private sector officials.

"I think there will be an expansion of credit, expansion of the balance sheet of the banks", Hamoud bin Sangour al Zadjali, Executive President of the CBO said. "It will be at not less than 10 per cent of the growth and that is due to the wise policies of the government to spend more funds on infrastructure and related projects which can create a huge demand for credit from the banks", he said.

"In terms of liquidity, there is plenty of liquidity in the banking sector and it will be able to meet all the growth-oriented credit demand from the private sector and from the government projects as well creating a positive clime. And as a result of that, there will not be any hike in the interest rates since Omani rial is pegged to the Dollar".

Organised under the aegis of BankMuscat's Brokerage Division in Oman and Muscat Securities House — the investment banking subsidiary in Saudi Arabia, about 15 leading companies representing every sector of the economy from Oman and Saudi Arabia are showcased at the conference.
In addition to well-known companies, the conference also hosts upcoming companies that offer excellent investment potential.

Today, better opportunities of investments in various spheres of the economy will be discussed by panels consisting of experts and other dignitaries. The BankMuscat Investor Conference 2010 is a unique event that provides a strategic interactive forum to broaden the financial community’s awareness of the performing public companies in Oman and Saudi Arabia. One-to-one sessions have been arranged for investors to interact with participating companies and understand their strategies, capabilities and outlook.
