Oman Prepares for the 2nd Report on Human Resources Development

Oman (Muscat) - Sheikh al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Oman Economy Ministry for Development Affairs and Head of the Executive Work Team tasked with preparing a regular report on Human Resources Development in the Sultanate said that the UN Report on Human Resources Development for 2009 ranked the Sultanate 56 as a country of high human resources development.

He told Oman News Agency (ONA) while opening the 1st Forum of participants involved in preparing the National Report on Human Resources Development at the Crowne Plaza Hotel today that the forum seeks to gather personnel responsible for preparing the back papers of the 2nd Report on Human Resources Development in the Sultanate to achieve coherence and integration of contents of research study, as well as, contacts between the report's statistical team and compilers of back papers.

He attributed the delay in initiating the 2nd report on Human Resources Development in the Sultanate to delay in releasing the Families Expenditures and Income results due to unforeseen technical reasons.

For his part, Hamed bin Jabr al Mahrouqi, Director General of Service Sectors Development at the National Economy Ministry said that human resources development reports are valuable as they provide a comprehensive vision on the development issue.

"The report seeks to review the 2004 Human Resources Development Report in the Sultanate, the impacts of the Sixth Five Year Development Plan 2001-2005 on human resources in the Sultanate, he said. "The 2nd Report on Human Resources Development is a comprehensive one and focuses on 'Implications of Development Plans on Human Resources Development in the Sultanate. It falls in ten chapters and includes Table of terms and some technical and statistical annexes," he furthered.

"To compile the statistical data, a statisticians was hired and working team led by Dr. Khalifa al Barwani, Director of the National Census office has been formed to provide experts and staff with statistical data," he added.

The deliberations of the forum, then began by presenting and debating a number of themes related to Human Resources Development Report, it's objectives and major statistical aspects. (ONA)
