Oman, UAE to increase trade exchange over $2 bln

Deliberations of Oman-UAE Supreme Joint Committee's Meetings were concluded in Muscat at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel today under the chair of Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Omani Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court from the Omani side and Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Affairs Minister from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) side in the presence of members of the committee from the two sides.

Minutes of the two-day meetings were signed at the end of the meetings.

Minutes of the Committee's meetings included a number of items which were discussed including various scopes of cooperation between the two brotherly countries in economic, investment, educational fields and other bilateral cooperation and coordination fields.

The committee discussed a number of topics, ideas and mechanism of cooperation and exchange experiences. It discussed ideas related to facilitating the trade exchange and the importance of increasing the volume of this exchange, which is currently estimated at RO. 800 million ($2 bln) annually between the two countries.

The meetings touched on topics of investment between the two countries and studying a number of investment projects where a number of governmental investment departments from the two countries took part for the first time in the Committee's meetings to put forwards projects for investment. The committee agreed on the importance of this cooperation and finding strategic partnerships in this field to express both governments policy that there should be joint investments and involving the private sector from both sides in such investments.

The meetings also touched on cooperation in electricity, water, waste water sectors and the mechanism and studying the usage of clean and renewable energy

The meetings were attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Saud bin Ibrahim al Busaidi, Interior Minister, Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, National Economy Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council, Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Commerce and Industry Minister, Dr, Khamis bin Mubarak al Alawi, Transport and Communications Minster, Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed al Shabibi, Housing Minister, Maj.Gen. Salim bin Musallam Qatan, Assistant Inspector-General of Police and Customs, Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Undersecretary of the Finance Ministry, Khalil bin Abdullah al Khunji, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah al Qatabi, Sultanate's ambassador accredited to the UAE.

From the UAE side it was attended by Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid al Qasmi, Foreign Trade Minister, Eng. Sultan Said al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, Dr. Anwar Mohammed Qarqash, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Haneef Hassan Ali, Health Minister, Dr. Saqr Ghubash Said, Labour Minister, Dr. Hadif bin Gawaan al Dhahri, Justice Minister, Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd, Environment Minister, Ubaid Humaid al Tayir, State and Financial Affairs Minister, Lt. Gen Saif Abdullah al Shafar, Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry, Khalid Ghanim al Ghaith, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr. Matar  Hamid al Niyadi from the Border's Affairs Council, Mohammed Ali al Osaimi, UAE's ambassador to the Sultanate and Khadim al Qubaisi, Chairman of the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).
