ISESCO experts meet in Mauritania to promote media pluralism in Maghreb

In coordination with the Mauritanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will hold a sub-regional experts meeting in Nouakchott , on 15-17 March, to consider ways to promote media pluralism in the Arab Maghreb States.

The meeting will ponder on obstacles to the development of media pluralism in the Arab Maghreb States, determine its institutional and legislative requirements and draw attention to the importance of the developmental aspect of a plural media environment in the region.

Participants in the meeting will draw an analytical assessment of the current situation of pluralism in the written and audiovisual press in the Arab Maghreb, consider the institutional and legislative dimension of the promotion of media pluralism in the region, and discuss the relationship between media pluralism, liberalization of the sector and human rights culture in the Maghreb countries.

Dr El Mahjoub Bensaid, communication expert at the Directorate of Culture and Communication, will represent ISESCO in supervising this meeting which will bring together experts on written press and audiovisual media legislation from the five countries.
