The Omani Businesswomen’s Forum has hailed the keenness of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on activating the role of women in the economic arena in the Sultanate. The forum, which convened yesterday, expressed appreciation for the new regulation approved in December 2009 to support women’s forums.

The meeting was presided over by Natasha bint Yahya Naseeb, member of the OCCI. Khalil bin Abdullah al Khonji, Chairman of the OCCI, underlined the attention accorded by the OCCI board to businesswomen in Muscat, regions and governorates and its support for their participation in the Sultanate’s economic activities.

He stressed the importance of the committee’s role in supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s), training SME’s owners and their participation in local and foreign exhibitions. He called upon businesswomen who are taking part in ‘Expo Shanghai’ to familiarise people with Omani businesswomen’s role in the comprehensive development in the Sultanate.

The meetings elected Fawziyah bint Khamis al Harasiyah as head of the committee’s marketing and promotional team. It also discussed the forum’s plan during 2010 which includes a number of activities to be implemented in collaboration with the concerned authorities in the public and private sectors and businesswomen in the Sultanate.

The meeting also reviewed the preparations being made to host the Gulf Businesswomen’s Forum in the Sultanate during October 17 and 18
