Oman: Passenger Traffic at Muscat International Airport increased by 29%

Oman (Muscat) - The total passenger traffic (including transit & transfer passengers through Muscat International Airport has increased by 29% to 854,387 passengers during January and February 2010 compared to 660,578 passengers for the same period of 2009. 

Statistics issued by the Directorate General of Safety and Aviation Services at the Ministry of Transport and Communications pointed out that the number of arrival and departure passengers through Muscat International Airport has increased by 8.97% to 858,390 at the end of February 2010 compared to 537,187 at the same period of the year 2009. 

Statistics shows an increase in the arrival passengers by 9% to 305,554 passengers during January and February 2010 comparing to 281,591 passengers for the same period of the year 2009. The number of departing passengers has also increased by 9% to 279,836 passengers comparing to 255,596 passengers for the same period of the year 2009. 

The increase in arrival and departure traffic into Muscat International Airport is attributed to the increase of the number of flights to some airlines operating into Muscat International Airport, such as, Air India Express, Lufthansa and Shaheen Air International.  

In terms of air cargo traffic at Muscat International airport, Aviation Statistics indicate an increase in the total unloaded and loaded freight by 62%, during January and February 2010 with total shipment (14,406 ton) compared to (8,887 ton) in the same period in 2009.

Salalah Airport has also witnessed an increase by 7% in the total number of arriving and departing passengers to 69,210 passengers during January and February 2010 compared to 64,715 passengers for the same period of 2009. 

As for the movement of Air Cargo at Salalah Airport, Freight traffic has recorded 4% decrease in total unloaded and loaded freight, bringing the shipment to(170 ton) during January and February 2010 compared to (178 ton) in the same period in 2009.(ONA)
