Abu Dhabi – the long and excited jury to Arab poetry title will come to an end tomorrow evening (Wednesday) in Abu Dhabi when the winner is crowned in Arabs biggest poetry competition “Million’s Poet”

The fourth season of the live TV competition organized and sponsored by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) has attracted international media attention for the powerful poets taking part in the competition from all over the Arab world. The show became a phenomenon for reviving in a modern way a very ancient form of poetry popular in the Arab world for centuries.

The show, broadcast live from Al Raha Beach Theater every Wednesday on Abu Dhabi TV,  presents 48 poets, carefully selected by a panel of experts on Nabati poetry (dialect poetry), from thousands of applicants after a six-week tour of the Arabian Gulf countries and Jordan  with contestants from all over the Arab world. The poets will battle it out, seeking to impress the jury and the audience with their poetic skills, in the hope of making it through to the grand final.

The final episode was postponed last week in respect of the official morning over HH Shaikh Ahmed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian and Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, who passed away in a glider crash in Morocco.

In the final episode of the show tomorrow, five poets from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait will stand before the jury panel for the last time to deliver their best poem and collect points from booth jury and public voting.

In the final phase of the competition, poets are given a total points of 60 by the jury panel, 30 points were given in the previous episode and the rest 30 points will be given in the final episode tomorrow, while 40 points are given by the public voting. Poet with highest points will be awarded the first prize of UAD 5 million ($1,362,000).

In the previous episode, the jury gives the highest points to the only finalist poetess Hissa Helal from Saudi Arabia and Kuwaiti poet Sultan Al Asaimar. Each gained 28 points out of 30. Poet Fallah Al Moragi from Kuwait was given 27 points. Poets Jazaa Al Boqami from Saudi Arabia and Nasser Al Ajmi from Kuwait were given 26 points each.

Contestants are judged using a mixture of jury votes, live audience votes via the in-theatre voting pods and SMS voting throughout the weeks. The Millions’ Poet who wins first place will receive an increased grand prize of 5 million AED ($1,362,000), second place will be awarded 4 million AED ($ 1,090,000), third place 3 million AED ($ 817,000), fourth place 2 million AED ($ 545,000) and fifth place 1 million AED ($ 272,000). The prize money for all contestants will total 22 million AED (more than $ 4 million).
